In continuation of Ganga Action’s mission of cleaning and greening the banks of Mother Ganga and Her tributaries, we held our first ever large-scale tree plantation programme in the Veerbhadra district of Rishikesh. With the divine guidance and inspiration of Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, the Founder of Ganga Action Parivar and President of Parmarth Niketan Ashram, Ganga Action spent months preparing for this event. The success of this event serves as an example for the many other projects that Ganga Action will be planning and implementing in the coming months.
Special guests of honor and GAP supporters who were involved in the plantation were local governing officials, renowned environmentalists, youth activists, along with many villagers and localites. Nearly 2,400 will be planted over the next few days, with many more plantations all throughout Uttarakhand this monsoon season. Ganga Action aims to not only help rejuvenate the environment as well as uplift and empower the village areas by providing valuable fruit and medicine. Participation of the local people in the plantation included taking a pledge to care for and nurture these plants as their own children.
