A meeting was held along with the Save Ganga Movement (during their Ganga Yatra Phase I) at Parmarth Niketan Ashram, Rishikesh in which the aims of Ganga Action were discussed. The goal of Ganga Action is to bring together and unite all the diverse groups and people (whether they be in the local, media, legal, education, scientific, communication or any other fields) working to restore Ganga to her aviral (free-flowing) and nirmal (unpolluted) state. Along with the formation of Ganga Action, it was decided to create a website for Ganga Action to provide a source for all people to access information about Ganga. Finally, it was also agreed that a Ganga Trust should be set up to fund – with transparency and clarity – all the activities needed to restore an aviral nirmal Ganga.
