In observation of the International Ozone Day, members of Ganga Action Parivar (GAP) and Himalaya Vahini came together for a collective clean and green campaign at the Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh. It was an initiative that illustrated the power of thinking globally and acting locally. GAP believes that if our communities and families focus on cleaning up their surroundings and greening their localities they not only preserve their environment, improve their own well-being, secure the planet for our future generations but also promote green tourism/livelihoods, inviting and attracting people from all over the world from their success model.
The environmental event brought many children, youth and teenagers. Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, Founder of GAP and President of Parmarth Niketan gave the slogan “Teen India. Green India.” and shared that teens also had an important responsibility to help protect their ozone. He inspired them to serve as Green Peace Ambassadors of their communities and spearhead such movements often, especially on festivals and special holidays making every occasion clean, green and serene Himalaya Vahini Founder, Shri Vijaypal Baghelji educated everyone about the grave threats of Global Warming and depleting Ozone layer, which are fast melting our glaciers and causing sporadic and increased rainfall and to which eco-fragile and sensitive regions such as the Himalayas are most susceptible. He shared that that tree plantation and care is probably the single-most powerful activity they can do to help reverse these affects and preserve our oxygen banks.
The Ozone Layer acts as a shield for us from very harmful UV rays.
If we damage the Ozone Layer any more then we would put ourselves at an increasingly greater risk.
On this International Ozone Day, let us remind ourselves of the need to
prevent further damage to this layer for protecting all lives on Mother Earth.
