The King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue, KAICIID, organzied a conference on “The Image of the Other: Interreligious and Intercultural Education – Best Practice in Asia”. The three-phased programme is focusing on education this year and its objectives are:
~ Identify and communicate best practices of intercultural education in different world regions, making them known in other parts of the world
~ Increase the international exchange of ideas, methods, language and technical assistance where desire
~ Better connection amongst researchers, practitioners, educators and policymakers
~ Support existing recommendations and aggregate new recommendations from field experts in each region, sharing them at global and policy levels
~ Expand the use of local and culturally sensitive models of intercultural education
The Asia conference is the third in a series of four workshops; others being held in the Americas, the Euro-Mediterranean region and Africa. At the meeting, KAICIID aspires to use dialogue amongst a select group to share best practices, identify challenges and create productive networks in the field.
Recommendations from the New Delhi meeting will be disseminated in the other regions and converge in a Global Forum in November 2013, bringing together educators, religious leaders and policy makers in Vienna.
Ganga Action Parivar and Parmarth Niketan represented at the conference that it is through service of humanity and the environment that education of our universal one-ness can be put into action and the illusional divide between “us” and “them” can be dissolved.
