At twilight on the Sangam, at the VIP ghat, Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji led a special Ganga Aarti ceremony (divine lighting ceremony) to be graced by the presence of HH Pujya Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswatiji of Kanchi Kaam Koti, Pujya Swami Ramdevji and many revered saints and spiritual leaders of Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Jainism and Christianity as well as distinguished guests and dignitaries.

The Aarti delivered the great message (“Sangam se Sangam ka Sandesh”) of unity of the leaders of the world’s religions in the importance of protecting our national environment and particularly the sacred and life-giving waters of Mother Ganga. As the revered saints waved the brightly burning aarti lamps, it brought a message of light and peace to the world. Their united offering of the aarti to Mother Ganga was a great symbol of Mother Ganga’s importance to people of every religion, every culture and every creed.

Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji said of this special aarti ceremony, “As we stand at the Sangam, we are not only at the confluence of the holy Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers, but also the confluence of many different countries, cultures and creeds that are joined together by the love of our Mother Ganga who gives and gives and gives with no discrimination, no hesitation, no vacation and no expectation. Now is the time to give back to Her, not with plastic and pollution, but with perseverance and protection, in order to restore Her to Her natural, free-flowing state of pristinely clean waters.”
